Gravity Die Casting

Gravity die casting fills a reusable steel or cast-iron mould under gravity rather than at high pressure. Tooling is simpler and cheaper than a high-pressure die, gas porosity is lower than sand casting, and the process suits medium volumes of parts with thicker walls or where heat treatment is needed.

FAQ

Perguntas frequentes

Gravity or high-pressure die casting?

Gravity suits thicker walls, heat-treated parts and lower volumes because tooling is cheaper. High-pressure wins for thin walls, tight tolerance and high volumes where cycle time dominates.

Can gravity castings be welded?

Yes, with matching filler and appropriate preheat. Porosity level is low enough that TIG repair and joining both work on gravity castings, unlike many high-pressure parts.

What wall thickness is realistic?

Between 3 and 20 mm. Thinner walls run the risk of cold shuts because the metal fills under gravity alone, which is the main reason high-pressure casting exists.
