Titanium Ti-6Al-4V

Ti-6Al-4V is the workhorse titanium alloy, offering roughly the strength of 4140 steel at about 56 % of the weight, with outstanding corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. It is used where weight, corrosion and strength all matter at once, from aerospace fittings to medical devices.

FAQ

Preguntas frecuentes

Why is titanium expensive to machine?

It conducts heat poorly and work hardens, so cutting speeds are roughly a quarter of those used on aluminium and tool life is short. Cost reflects machine time, not just material price.

Grade 5 or Grade 2?

Grade 5 is the high-strength alloy for structural and load-bearing parts. Grade 2 is softer, more formable and used where corrosion resistance matters but strength does not.

Can titanium be anodized in colour?

Yes. Anodizing titanium produces colour by oxide thickness rather than dye, which is widely used for medical instrument colour coding and for motorsport components.
