Overmolding

Overmoulding bonds a second material onto a substrate, usually a soft elastomer onto a rigid engineering plastic, so a product gets grip, sealing and impact protection without a separate assembly step. We run both two-shot tools that do it in a single machine cycle and insert-loaded overmoulding for smaller volumes.

FAQ

Preguntas frecuentes

Which materials bond well together?

Success depends on chemical compatibility. TPE grades are formulated for specific substrates such as PC, ABS or PA, and we always confirm the grade pair with a bond test before production.

Is mechanical interlocking enough?

Mechanical features such as undercuts and through-holes help, but a chemically matched pair gives a much stronger seal. We use both together on parts that must be waterproof.

What volumes justify a two-shot tool?

Two-shot tooling costs more than a single-shot tool, so it normally makes sense above about 10,000 parts per year. Below that we load pre-moulded substrates into a standard tool.
