Zinc Plating

Zinc plating deposits a sacrificial layer on steel that corrodes in preference to the base metal, protecting it even where the coating is scratched. Trivalent passivates give colour and extend salt spray life, making it the standard finish for brackets, fasteners and sheet metal parts.

FAQ

よくあるご質問

What thickness do I need?

The standard is 8 to 12 µm, which gives good protection economically. For harsh environments we increase thickness and add a sealer to extend salt spray performance.

Is hydrogen embrittlement a risk?

It can be for high-strength steels above 1,000 MPa, so those parts are baked immediately after plating. We flag it whenever the material specification requires it.

Can plated parts still be welded?

Welding should be done before plating because zinc vaporises and contaminates the weld pool. We always plan the sequence with plating last.
