How durable is a PTFE coating?
It is softer than the substrate and wears under high loads or abrasive media, so it suits sliding contacts and non-stick duties rather than heavy abrasion. We specify the grade accordingly.
Does it need a primer?
On most metals yes, a primer improves adhesion, and the coating is applied in layers and then baked. Without proper preparation the film can blister or flake.
Can it be used for food contact?
Certain PTFE grades are approved for food contact, and we specify those where required. The coating must also be cured correctly to meet the standard.
