ABS Plastic

ABS is the general-purpose engineering plastic: tough, impact resistant, easy to machine and easy to paint. It is used for housings, enclosures, cosmetic parts and prototypes, and its predictable shrinkage makes it one of the most reliable resins to mould.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ABS suitable outdoors?

Standard ABS degrades under UV and will chalk and yellow, so for outdoor parts we use ASA or add a UV-stable topcoat.

When should I use PC/ABS instead?

When you need more heat resistance, stiffness or impact performance. PC/ABS is common for laptop housings, automotive interior trim and power tool casings.

Can printed ABS parts be smoothed?

Yes. Vapour smoothing with acetone gives a glossy, sealed surface, and we can also sand and paint printed ABS to a cosmetic standard.
