Polycarbonate (PC)

Polycarbonate combines optical clarity with exceptional impact resistance, which is why it is used for machine guards, light covers, lenses and safety components. It also machines and forms well, making it practical for both prototypes and production.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is polycarbonate suitable for machine guards?

Yes, if the thickness matches the impact risk. PC is the standard material for vision panels because it absorbs impact instead of shattering, and we can hard coat it against scratching.

Can PC be machined without cracking?

Machining stresses can cause crazing, so we use sharp tooling, careful clamping and relieve stress afterwards. Where clarity matters we anneal the part after machining.

PC or PMMA for a clear part?

PC wins on impact, PMMA wins on optical clarity and scratch resistance. For lenses and displays PMMA is often preferred; for guards and covers PC is safer.
