Anodizing

Anodizing converts the aluminium surface into a hard oxide layer that resists corrosion and wear and accepts dye. Type II gives a decorative finish and Type III, or hard anodizing, builds a much thicker layer for wear-critical surfaces.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does anodizing change part dimensions?

Yes, the oxide grows inward and outward, adding roughly half the layer thickness to each surface. For tight bores we machine undersize so the finished part is on size.

Can anodizing hide machining marks?

It reveals them. Anodizing is translucent and any scratch or tool mark shows through, so cosmetic parts are bead blasted or polished before anodizing.

Which colours hold best?

Black and dark tones are most stable in sunlight. Bright reds and yellows fade faster on exterior parts, so we advise UV testing for outdoor applications.
