FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 316 worth the extra cost?

It is when the part sees chlorides: salt water, coastal air, saline sprays or hypochlorite cleaning. In benign indoor conditions 304 performs just as well for less money.

What is the difference between 316 and 316L?

316L has lower carbon, which reduces carbide precipitation during welding and prevents intergranular corrosion. Use 316L for anything that will be welded and exposed to moisture.

Can 316 be used for medical devices?

Yes, 316L is a standard material for surgical instruments and implants hardware, and we supply it with material certificates and passivation records.
