Nylon (PA6 / PA66)

Nylon is tough and wear resistant with good temperature performance, which makes it useful for gears, rollers, insulators and structural brackets. It absorbs moisture, however, so parts that must hold tight dimensions are usually specified in POM or with glass filling.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does nylon change dimension?

Nylon absorbs moisture from the air and swells, so a part machined dry will grow in service. We machine oversize where needed and specify conditioning for critical fits.

What is cast nylon used for?

Large parts: sheaves, gears, wear pads and rollers. Cast nylon gives better dimensional stability and lower internal stress than extruded stock in large sections.

Is glass-filled nylon better?

It is stiffer and more dimensionally stable but more abrasive on tooling and lower in impact strength. Choose it for structural parts and plain nylon for impact loads.
