Waterjet Cutting

Waterjet cuts with a high-pressure stream of water and abrasive, removing material mechanically rather than thermally. There is no heat-affected zone and no hardening at the cut edge, which makes it the right process for thick plate, heat-sensitive alloys and materials that would crack or warp under a laser.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When is waterjet better than laser?

Above about 20 mm in steel, or whenever the material is heat sensitive. Titanium, Inconel, thick aluminium and composites all cut better cold because there is no thermal damage or hardening.

Is the cut edge ready to use?

For many brackets the edge is acceptable after deburring. Where a mating or sealing surface is needed we machine it after cutting and hold the tolerance on the machining operation.

Can you cut parts from customer-supplied plate?

Yes. Ship the plate to us and we will cut to your nesting plan and return the offcuts with the parts.
